“I had formed a sound leadership team which had worked very well together through times of crisis; however, I knew that it was time for us to look to the future and drive the charity to greater things. This meant I needed to look at my role and how I led this change. I knew the charity very well and this was going to mean doing things differently, I recognised that I would need support both with my own self confidence and to develop different skills to lead my team through this transformation.”

Leadership coaching helps transform Charity
Founded in 1968, Bransby Horses is one of the largest equine charities in the United Kingdom. Every day, the teams at Bransby Horses rescue, rehabilitate and care for equines in need. They also educate owners on how to best care for equines, offering non-judgemental advice and support.
The need for the charity’s services has changed significantly over the past 10 years and the indications are that the pace of change over the next 10 years will increase even more quickly.
Jo Snell has been the Chief Executive Officer of the charity for over 10 years. Jo restructured her senior team around 4 years ago, introducing several new senior leadership roles and has developed an effective team.
Jo recognised that as well as needing a more transformational and collaborative approach to the way the charity works going forward, her leadership approach also needed to move up a level, to address old habits, reignite her motivation and develop the inner confidence to be the best version of herself.
Jo was referred to Gwen Booth, her New Level Results coach, by a colleague. During the initial meeting, Jo talked about seeking greater clarity, structure and focus moving forward with a desire to thrive. She found that working with The Curve® gave her structure and discipline, allowing her clearer focus on her leadership, team and personal goals as well as showing the progress achieved through the coaching month by month.
Jo worked with her coach to look at her life as a whole rather than looking at work in isolation, exploring what may be blocking progress, developing new habits, reframing her thinking, re-energising and building resilience. Alongside this personal leadership development, Jo used The Curve® to continue to drive forward change within her senior team and the charity.
Taking time out each month to properly reflect on the past month’s progress, achievements and learning gained proved to be a motivational process for Jo, helping her see a more balanced perspective and contributing to a more positive mindset.
Reflecting on the challenges encountered over the past 12 months, it was very evident to Jo what she had achieved for herself at the end of the 12-month coaching programme. Her increased understanding of herself and her resilience, alongside her new habits and new ways of thinking and responding had helped her successfully navigate these unexpected challenges in a way that was unlikely to have happened prior to the coaching.
Jo’s successful leadership development journey has helped her achieve a positive impact on her team and the organisation as a whole and she has signed up to work with her coach for a second year to continue to transform her team and the charity.

“Over the years in my role, I have had support from other coaches but recognised that I really need the stretch now to succeed in the next part of my leadership journey. Gwen was recommended to me by a colleague. I knew from my first meeting with her that she would support and push me to where I wanted to be.
Whilst the topics we discuss during the coaching itself are instigated by me, Gwen gives me the challenge, whilst having empathy and understanding; this all being supported by the structure and focus which The Curve® provides – this really has kept me on track, particularly when things got a bit bumpy, it helped support me to achieve my goals and most importantly my aspirational successful outcome.
We have now developed an aspirational 10-year strategic plan and I am continuing to work with Gwen and The Curve® to support me and my team to develop the plans to deliver upon this work.”
